How to shop kitchen and home deals on Black Friday
Compare against past prices, not just the “was” price
The “was” price is what the store lists, and some stores use a reference price rather than what the item usually sells for. A price tracker or the price you've seen at other stores is a better guide to whether a deal is good.
Check the exact model number
Some products sold around Black Friday are versions made for the sale, with model numbers that differ slightly from the regular product. Compare the full model number and specs, like size, wattage, attachments or what's in the box.
Count the running costs
For vacuums, air purifiers and coffee machines, check the price of filters, bags, pods or replacement parts. A cheap machine with expensive refills can cost more over a year.
Check the return window and condition
Look at how many days you have to return an item and whether you pay return shipping. Some stores change their return windows for holiday purchases. If the listing says open-box or refurbished, read what that seller means by it and what warranty comes with it.
Don't wait for the day itself
Many stores start their holiday sales well before Black Friday, and clearance stock can sell out. If a deal is already a good price, it may be gone by Black Friday.
